Caution with Cantaloupes
As delicious and sweet as cantaloupes are, the CDC has been investigating Rocky Ford cantaloupes, grown in the southeast Colorado. According to their investigations, the cantaloupes have been spreading a bacterial infection known as Listeriosis to many parts of the mid-west. This bacteria can invade many parts of your body, but mainly chooses the brain, spine, or bloodstream, and can cause fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and even death. So next time you’re at the market selecting a perfectly ripened cantaloupe, check the tag. If it’s Rocky Ford, put it down, and move along.
